Today, September 13th, the 2025 World Freestyle Wrestling Championship began in Zagreb. On the first day of the tournament, competitions started in the 61 kg, 70 kg, 86 kg, and 125 kg weight categories.
The names of the semi-finalists have been announced, and one of the key highlights was Zavur Uguev's (61kg) advancement to the semi-finals. Since 2019, Uguev had not reached the World Championship semi-finals, and now he is confidently contending for the world gold medal.
On his way to the semi-final, Zavur defeated Armenia's Manvel Khndzrtsyan, and in the quarter-finals, he beat Kazakhstan's Asylzhan Yessengeldi.
In the semi-final, he will face a strong American wrestler, Jax Forrest, who encountered little resistance in his part of the bracket: first, he defeated a representative from Korea, then the formidable Japanese wrestler Takaru Sudo, and finally, Kyrgyzstan's Tairbek Zhumashbekov.
It certainly won't be easy for Uguev, but he will undoubtedly fight with all his strength.
