The 2025 Sambo World Championship concluded on November 9 in Bishkek, where on the final day 10 sets of medals were awarded in sport and combat sambo among men and women. The third day of the tournament once again took place under the sign of Russia’s (FIAS 1) dominance: its representatives won 8 out of 10 possible gold medals, reaffirming their leadership in world sambo. Also winning gold medals on the final day were athletes from Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.
Among the host nation’s athletes, Daniyel Asekov stood out, becoming world champion in combat sambo in the 58 kg category. Ukrainian athlete Vladyslav Rudniev won gold in the 79 kg combat sambo division, securing a second tournament victory for his team.
Team Armenia did not win medals on the final day, but finished the championship with two bronze medals earned the day before. These results placed the Armenian team among the nations that reached the world podium, but compared to previous cycles, it is clear that the team’s potential requires further strengthening and the development of new young leaders.
The tournament in Bishkek demonstrated a high level of competition, especially in combat sambo, where the struggle for medals was truly intense. Overall, the championship confirmed the traditional dominance of Russian sambists, as well as the growing influence of Central Asian national teams.
