Osijek’s central defender Styopa Mkrtchyan will join the Armenian national team with an injury sustained in the last Croatian league match against Hajduk. According to the Croatian club’s official website, the player’s participation in the upcoming international fixtures remains uncertain.
It should be noted that Armenia already lacks one of its key defenders, former captain Varazdat Haroyan, who recently ended his international career. In this context, Mkrtchyan’s potential absence could seriously weaken the team in the upcoming matches.
The final decision on Mkrtchyan’s availability for the September matches will be made after a medical examination in Yerevan.
On September 6, Armenia will host Portugal, and on September 9, they will face Ireland. Both 2026 World Cup qualification matches will take place in Yerevan.
