The youth team of the Irish club Cabinteely FC (U14) arrived in Yerevan together with the national team of Ireland to play a series of friendly matches against their peers from “Pyunik Academy”, as well as to support their national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Armenia.
The academy meetings took place on September 8 and 9 at Pyunik’s training fields. In both games, the home side celebrated victory:
-
The 2011-born Pyunik team defeated their rivals with an impressive 12:0 score;
-
The 2012-born Pyunik team earned a 3:1 victory over the Irish side.
After the friendly series, the young Cabinteely FC players went to the Republican Stadium on the evening of September 9 to cheer for the Ireland national team in the match against Armenia. However, their joy was spoiled by Armenia’s 2:1 victory in the second round of Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualification.
It should be noted that before the trip to Yerevan, the Irish club had called this journey “the trip of a lifetime” for the young athletes. Alongside the 14 players, the coaching staff also came to Armenia.
