Today, on September 15, at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, the last representative of Armenia’s national team — Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg) — enters the competition.
Right from the first round, he faces a serious challenge: his opponent will be Abdulmajid Kudiev of Tajikistan, ranked 6th in the world. However, the Armenian wrestler has a positive history against Kudiev — at the 2023 World Championships, Tevanyan won their match 8:6.
If successful, his next bout may bring him against Ulomjon Jalolov of Uzbekistan, whom Vazgen confidently defeated a year ago — 4:0. Potential semifinal opponents for Tevanyan are Russia’s Ibragim Ibragimov and Japan’s Kotaro Kiyoka.
For the Armenian team, the tournament has been tough. Earlier, four wrestlers competed:
-
Arman Andreasyan (70 kg) lost in the bronze medal match,
-
Manvel Khndzrtsyan (61 kg) and Hrayr Alikhanyan (74 kg) were eliminated in early rounds,
-
Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) was stopped in the semifinals yesterday and will fight for bronze this evening.
Thus, on the final day of the competition, the hopes of Armenian fans rest on Vazgen Tevanyan’s performance.
