Armenian weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan (+109 kg) has become a two-time European champion, winning gold at the 2025 European Championships held in Chișinău, Moldova.
Following the retirement of Georgian lifter Lasha Talakhadze and Simon Martirosyan's move to a lighter weight category, Lalayan faced no serious competition at the European stage. The 25-year-old Armenian confidently dominated both the snatch and clean & jerk, securing three gold medals — two small ones and one big for the total.
In the snatch, Lalayan lifted 210 kg, surpassing his closest rival, Bohdan Khoza of Ukraine, by 20 kg.
In the clean & jerk, the Olympic silver medalist again faced no resistance, lifting 240 kg — 5 kg ahead of Estonia’s Mart Seim.
In total, Lalayan reached 450 kg, finishing 35 kg ahead of Seim.
Thus, Lalayan, who was crowned both European and World Champion in 2024, adds another gold medal to his collection.
