Armenian weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan became the 2026 European Champion in the over 110 kg weight category. For the 26-year-old athlete, this title marks his third European championship in his career, confirming his status as one of the strongest weightlifters on the continent.

Lalayan demonstrated clear superiority over his rivals, winning by a wide margin in both the snatch and the clean and jerk. In the total, he recorded 451 kg (210 kg in the snatch and 241 kg in the clean and jerk), securing all three gold medals of the tournament.

After successfully lifting 241 kg in the clean and jerk, the athlete attempted to set a new European record by calling for 253 kg. However, both attempts were unsuccessful.
