The international U17 Greco-Roman wrestling tournament “Power of Traditions” has concluded in Novosibirsk. Armenian athletes participated in the competition and won two bronze medals.
The tournament was held in an unusual format: each weight category had only one bronze medalist. First, two contenders for bronze were determined in separate matches, after which they faced each other in the decisive bout. Representing Armenia, Narek Aleyan (48 kg), Erik Petrosyan (51 kg), Razmik Gevorkyan (55 kg), and Janes Nazaryan (71 kg) competed for medals. Petrosyan and Nazaryan became bronze medalists.
Erik Petrosyan (51 kg) first defeated Maksim Kayumov (Bashkortostan) 8:0 to advance to the bronze match, and then won 3:1 against Zhanarbek Seitov (Kyrgyzstan).
Janes Nazaryan (71 kg) confidently defeated Ilya Khazov (Bashkortostan) 9:0, and then in the bronze medal bout overcame Ivan Shulko (Saint Petersburg) 3:1.
Suren Manukyan (42 kg) from Moscow also became a tournament champion.
