Construction of Albert Azaryan Gymnastics School Begins in Yerevan

The construction of a new gymnastics school named after legendary Olympic champion Albert Azaryan has begun in Yerevan. The project is being implemented as part of preparations for the European Gymnastics Championship, which will be held in Armenia for the first time in 2027.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Araik Harutyunyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan, President of the Gymnastics Federation of Armenia Gagik Vanosyan, Director of the Azaryan School Pavel Kartashyan, as well as athletes, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony.
The government has allocated 6.9 billion drams for the construction of the school. The funds will be used for design, construction works, architectural and technical supervision, purchase of sports equipment, interior finishing, and creation of the necessary infrastructure.
The new complex will include specialized halls for rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatics, a multipurpose gym with a tribune for 532 spectators, utility rooms, locker rooms, administrative and service areas, a parking lot for 88 cars, warehouses and workshops, as well as a modern heating and ventilation system.
The construction is scheduled to be completed in November 2026. After opening, the school will become a modern training center for about 300 young gymnasts, meeting international standards, and will be able to host international tournaments.
The complex will also serve as one of the main venues of the 2027 European Gymnastics Championship, strengthening Armenia’s position in the international sports arena.
