The first meeting of the interdepartmental commission responsible for organizing major international sporting events to be held in Armenia in 2026 took place in Yerevan. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan.
The discussion was attended by representatives of relevant ministries, the Yerevan Municipality, sports federations, and other state bodies. Andreasyan noted that thanks to the experience gained in recent years, Armenia is ready to host large-scale tournaments at a high level.
In 2026, the country will host three major events:
-
European Shooting Championship (Adults) — February 27 to March 5 at the Karen Demirchyan Sports Complex. More than 500 participants from 45 countries are expected, and 70 medal sets will be awarded.
-
Sambo World Cup — April 10–13 in Yerevan. Athletes from 25 countries have already confirmed participation, with a total of up to 350 competitors expected.
-
World DanceSport Championship — to be held in November.
In addition, negotiations are underway regarding the possibility of hosting additional international tournaments in Armenia.
The commission discussed issues of infrastructure, venue selection, equipment procurement, event organization, as well as the creation of fan zones, tournament promotion, broadcasting, and ticketing systems.
It is also noted that in the summer of 2026, Yerevan will host the U16 European Basketball Championship (Division C).
