The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia has presented the official list of nominees for the annual national award “Selection of the Best in Sport” based on the results of 2025. This prestigious award traditionally sums up the sporting year, honoring athletes, coaches, and teams whose achievements, character, and dedication have made a significant contribution to the development and promotion of Armenian sport both domestically and on the international stage.

The award covers a wide range of sports disciplines and age categories, reflecting real results achieved at European and World Championships, international tournaments, youth championships, Universiades, the Deaflympic Games, and other major competitions. Among the nominees are both established leaders of national teams and young athletes who are already shaping the future of Armenian sport.

In 2025, the competition is held across several key categories, including: the top three athletes of the year, best female athlete, best athlete with a disability, best team, best young athlete, breakthrough or comeback of the year, athlete who brought international recognition to Armenia, best coach, as well as the audience choice award, which will be determined through online voting. This format allows for an objective assessment not only of sporting achievements but also of public recognition and the influence of athletes and coaches on the development of sport and the inspiration of the next generation.

The awards ceremony and announcement of the winners will take place on December 26, 2025.

Only representatives of Olympic sports and those disciplines included in Armenia’s special sports development program—such as wushu, chess, and sambo—were considered in the nominations. Sports such as MMA and armwrestling were not included, despite Armenia’s strong results in 2025. Notably, Armenia crowned its first-ever adult MMA world champion, Spartak Mikaelyan, who became one of the country’s three world champions in 2025 alongside Malkhas Amoyan and Varazdat Lalayan.

In the “Top Three Athletes of the Year” category, all nominees are athletes who won medals at senior European or World Championships.
