Third Gold for Japan: Results of Day 2 of the 2025 Judo World Championships

On June 14, the second day of the 2025 Judo World Championships took place in Budapest, Hungary. Medals were contested in the men's -66 kg and women's -52 kg weight categories.

Team Japan now holds three gold medals at the tournament. Yesterday, Ryuju Nagayama became champion, and today Uta Abe claimed her fifth world title. Her brother, Hifumi Abe, had to settle for bronze. Meanwhile, another Japanese judoka, Takeshi Takeoka, defeated Nurali Emomali in the final to win Japan’s third gold. This is Takeoka’s first world championship gold.

In the men's -66 kg category, only athletes from Japan and Tajikistan made the podium.

66 kg (Men):

  1. Takeshi Takeoka (Japan)

  2. Nurali Emomali (Tajikistan)

  3. Hifumi Abe (Japan) and Obid Djebov (Tajikistan)

5. Walide Khyar (France) and Orlando Polanco (Cuba)

52 kg (Women):

  1. Uta Abe (Japan)

  2. Distria Krasniqi (Kosovo)

  3. Róza Gyertás (Hungary) and Mascha Ballhaus (Germany)

5. Ariane Toro Soler (Spain) and Kisumi Omori (Japan)

Tomorrow, June 15, medals will be awarded in the men’s -73 kg and women’s -57 kg categories.
