A Touching Letter from the Daughter of Armenia's National Team Coach John van 't Schip Before His Departure to Yerevan

A Touching Letter from the Daughter of Armenia's National Team Coach John van 't Schip Before His Departure to Yerevan
Football

Recently appointed as the head coach of Armenia's national football team, John van 't Schip is embarking on a new chapter in his career and life. However, behind this professional achievement lies a deeply personal story, filled with both joyful memories and profound loss. Two years ago, John lost his wife, who was not only his life partner but also his greatest support in all his endeavors.

Before his departure to Armenia, the coach’s daughter, Estelle, wrote him a heartfelt letter, expressing her love and support. This letter became not just a farewell message but also a reminder that family always remains close, no matter the distance.

"For you, Dad! Onward to new adventures!

Off to Armenia—I will miss you terribly. But as Mom always used to say, time and distance do not exist. Head coach of Armenia’s national team—a new country to explore, new people to meet. A new chapter, and what a chapter it will be!

You always said that whenever you moved somewhere together, people welcomed you with open arms—and when you left, everyone cried… because they would miss Mom so much; after all, she was the one who always made connections.

Well, this time, you'll have to do it yourself! But if anyone can handle it, it’s you.

No matter the results, the most important thing is to enjoy this adventure. Dave and I will always support you, and Mom will be traveling with you, wherever you go.

See you soon, love you!" — wrote Estelle van 't Schip.

John van 't Schip

John van 't Schip is known for his professionalism and ability to connect with players. However, now he faces the challenge of not only adapting to a new country and culture but also stepping into the role that his wife once fulfilled—being the one who brings people together and creates an atmosphere of trust and warmth.

His daughter jokingly recalls that in the past, whenever the family moved, it was always their mother who became the heart of the group, and people missed her the most after they left. Now, it will be up to John to build those bridges himself. And, as his daughter writes, if anyone can do it, it's him.

The 61-year-old Dutchman officially took over as Armenia’s national team coach on March 1 and has already attended his first league match. Very soon, he will lead the team in his first official games. On March 20 and 23, Armenia will face Georgia in the UEFA Nations League playoffs for a chance to advance to League B.

The new head coach has already attended his first match in the Armenian championship.
