Three Armenian Wrestlers Reach European U20 Championships Semifinals

The 2026 European U20 Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships began on July 6 in Skopje. Five Armenian wrestlers competed on the opening day of the tournament, with three of them advancing to the semifinals.
Edgar Petrosyan reached the semifinals in the 55 kg weight category, Alex Margaryan advanced in the 63 kg division, and Samvel Terteryan made it through in the 77 kg category. All three delivered confident performances and continue their fight for medals at the European Championships.
Edgar Petrosyan started the tournament with an 8-0 victory over Portugal’s Alexandre De Almeida, then defeated France’s Sos Kotanjyan 9-0 in the quarterfinals.
Alex Margaryan has already competed in three bouts. In the round of 32, he defeated Russia’s Salim Kazmakhov 2-1. He then beat France’s Illes Dahmani 5-0 in the round of 16 before securing a dominant 9-0 victory over Belarus’ Dmitri Duduk in the quarterfinals.
Samvel Terteryan also advanced to the semifinals without conceding a single point. In the round of 16, the Armenian wrestler defeated Austria’s Lars Matt 9-0, and then beat Moldova’s Nichita Apostol by the same score in the quarterfinals.
In the 87 kg weight category, Yurik Petrosyan lost 1-3 to Russia’s Mikhail Shkarin. In the heavyweight 130 kg division, Leva Shukhyan was defeated 1-2 by Azerbaijan’s Musei Huseyn.

As a result, Armenia has three semifinalists out of five wrestlers after the opening day’s daytime session.
