Three Armenian Wrestlers to Fight for Bronze at the U20 European Championships in Skopje

The U20 European Wrestling Championships continue in Skopje. On the third competition day, Armenian Greco-Roman wrestlers competed in the repechage round and kept their medal hopes alive.

Yurik Mkhitaryan advanced confidently through the repechage in the 67 kg weight category. The Armenian wrestler earned a technical superiority victory over Greece’s Sergios Bouloutidis, winning 10:0 and qualifying for the bronze-medal bout.

In the 82 kg category, Vahe Hovhannisyan also reached the bronze-medal match. In his repechage bout, the Armenian representative defeated Georgian wrestler Luka Pipia 2:1.

As a result, three Armenian wrestlers will compete today for bronze medals at the U20 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships.

67 kg: Yurik Mkhitaryan — Mikhail Markovsky (Belarus)

72 kg: Narek Grigoryan — Arionas Kalitsopoulos (Greece)

82 kg: Vahe Hovhannisyan — Ismail Bereket (Turkey)

Armenia’s Serine Diana Crane also began her campaign on the third day of competition in the 50 kg weight category. In her opening bout, she lost to a representative of Kosovo 0:2 and was defeated by fall.

The U20 European Wrestling Championships are taking place in Skopje. Armenia has already won medals in Greco-Roman wrestling at the tournament, and now Armenian athletes have a chance to add three more bronze medals to the team’s tally.
