Third Day of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championship in Batumi

On April 21, in Batumi (Georgia), the third day of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championship took place. Medals were contested in two weight categories: men up to 71 kg and women up to 63 kg.
Men, 71 kg
Two-time European champion Yusuf Genç (Turkey), previously competing in the discontinued 73 kg category, won the title. Strong competition came from Gor Saakyan (Armenia), also a two-time European champion, formerly winning in the 67 kg category. Saakyan missed victory by just 2 kg.

33-year-old British athlete Sarah Davies (UK) won this category for the second consecutive year. Interestingly, athletes who placed in the snatch did not make the podium in the total. The medal contest was extremely tight: the difference between 1st and 6th place was only 5 kg.
