Spertsyan suffers back injury: Musayev explains why Krasnodar captain was substituted

Armenia national team and Krasnodar captain Eduard Spertsyan is dealing with back problems. That was the reason why the midfielder was substituted during the Russian Premier League Matchday 29 game against Dynamo Moscow.

The match in Moscow ended in a 2-1 defeat for Krasnodar. Spertsyan started the game and spent 83 minutes on the pitch before being replaced. Later, Krasnodar head coach Murad Musayev explained that the decision was connected to the Armenian footballer’s physical condition.

“Edik has back problems. He is showing heroic character,” Musayev said after the match.

Despite the injury, Spertsyan still managed to make an important attacking contribution. In the first half, Diego Costa opened the scoring after his pass. That assist became historic for the midfielder, as Spertsyan equalled the Russian Premier League record for the most assists in a single season.

This season, Krasnodar’s leader has played 40 matches in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 18 assists. His contribution remains one of the key factors in the team’s fight for the league title.

The defeat to Dynamo seriously complicated Krasnodar’s position in the title race. In the final round of the RPL, Murad Musayev’s team will host Orenburg on May 17. For Krasnodar, that match will be decisive, while Spertsyan’s condition could become one of the main questions ahead of the final game of the season.
