Shirak take points from Urartu and make an important step in survival battle

Shirak and Urartu failed to determine a winner in the penultimate, 26th round of the Fastex Armenian Premier League. The match at the City Stadium in Gyumri ended in a goalless draw — 0:0.

For the home side, this result is highly important in the battle to keep their place in the top tier of Armenian football. Vardan Bichakhchyan’s team moved to 13 points and remained in ninth place in the standings. At the same time, Shirak are now one point ahead of Ararat and keep the safe position before the final round.

For Urartu, the draw in Gyumri was a serious setback in the race for European qualification. The Yerevan club reached 49 points and drew level with third-placed Noah, who still have two games in hand. Urartu’s situation is further complicated by the competition with Alashkert, who now have a one-point advantage and are in a more favorable position ahead of the last round.

The intrigue in both the survival battle and the race for European places will remain until the very end of the championship. In the final round, Shirak will face Alashkert, while Urartu will have a difficult match against Noah.

Ararat-Armenia remain the league leaders with 57 points.
