Armenia national team forward Edgar Sevikyan shared his impressions after the 0–5 defeat to Portugal in the first round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The match took place on September 6 in Yerevan.
“It’s clear that we played against a strong opponent. Portugal is one of the best teams in the world, and top-level players played against us. We expected high quality and great skill. We tried to resist, but it didn’t work out. I hope that next time we will correct our mistakes and perform well.
We had our own plans and worked on many things. Some worked out, some didn’t. What matters is that we have training sessions that help us stay positive. I think mentally we will be able to recover before the match against Ireland,” Sevikyan told Metaratings journalist Norik Serobyan.
Armenia will play its next match against Ireland on September 9.
