Serobyan on his first goal for Armenia: “We deserved to win”

Armenia national team forward Artur Serobyan commented on the friendly match against Moldova, which took place at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan and ended in a 1-1 draw.

The match was a special one for the 22-year-old footballer: in the 89th minute, Serobyan opened the scoring and netted his first goal for the national team. However, Armenia failed to hold on to the lead, as Moldova equalized in stoppage time.

After the match, Serobyan admitted that he had mixed emotions.

“I am very happy that I finally scored my long-awaited first goal for the national team, but at the same time I am sad because we could not win. We really deserved to win today. We had many goal-scoring chances that we had to convert, and unfortunately we conceded an unnecessary goal. Since this was a friendly match, we need to learn the right lessons and move forward,” Serobyan said.

Armenia, led by Yeghishe Melikyan, finished the match strongly and managed to take the lead after an effective attack involving players from Ararat-Armenia. Kamo Hovhannisyan provided the assist for Artur Serobyan, who sent the ball into the net with a precise finish.

Nevertheless, victory slipped away from the Armenian team in stoppage time. Moldovan side Petrocub midfielder Victor Bogaciuc equalized and prevented Armenia from ending the June training camp with a win.

It should be noted that a few days earlier, on June 6, Armenia also played out a 1-1 draw against Kazakhstan. Thus, the Armenian national team completed both of its June friendly matches with the same scoreline.

Armenia will play its next official match in the autumn. On September 25, Yeghishe Melikyan’s team will host Latvia in the opening round of the Nations League.
