On April 27, the first stage of the 2026 Boxing World Cup concluded in the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu. The tournament was historic for the Armenian national team, which took part in the competition for the first time and immediately won a medal.


Chaloyan’s Silver Success

The only medalist for Armenia was David Chaloyan (over 90 kg). The Paris Olympic participant confidently progressed through the tournament, securing three victories and reaching the final.

In the final bout, Chaloian narrowly lost to Azerbaijan’s Mahammad Abdullayev with a score of 2:3, earning a silver medal.


Medal Standings

After seven days of competition and more than 300 bouts:

  • 1st place — Brazil
  • 2nd place — China
  • 3rd–4th places — Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan

The host nation secured the top spot thanks to four victories on the final day. Brazil’s gold medalists:

  • Luis Oliveira (60 kg)
  • Yuri Falcão (65 kg)
  • Wanderley Pereira (80 kg)
  • Isaias Filho (90 kg)

China’s team also had an outstanding final day, winning all four of their finals.

Uzbekistan and Poland each claimed two gold medals, while Venezuela, Norway, and Hungary each had one champion.
