The Armenia U20 men’s basketball team suffered a narrow 92–93 defeat to Denmark in the 13th–16th place match at the FIBA U20 European Championship (Division B), held in Yerevan.
Yura Melikyan was the standout player for Armenia, recording a double-double: 23 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, along with a steal and a block. Daniel Kirakosyan also delivered an excellent performance with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Xavier Kislysisyan (17 points) and Tigran Mkrtumyan (13 points) also contributed well.
Despite their valiant effort, Armenia fell just two points short of a victory that would have allowed them to fight for a higher placement.
Tomorrow, July 20, Armenia will face Austria — who lost to Biulgaria — in the match for 15th place on the final day of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the playoffs, four teams are still competing for the title: Croatia vs. Turkey and Latvia vs. Switzerland.
