Former Armenian national team striker Sargis Adamyan continues to impress fans while playing for Cologne’s second team in the Regionalliga West (Germany’s 4th division). In the 9th round against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, the 32-year-old forward became the hero of the match, scoring twice from free-kicks and securing a 2–1 victory for his side.
In the 45th minute, Adamyan brilliantly converted a free-kick from 17 meters, sending the ball straight into the net, leaving the goalkeeper helpless. Then, in stoppage time of the first half, he repeated his success — this time striking from the left flank. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced into the far corner, making it 2–0 at halftime.
Oberhausen managed to pull one back with a penalty in the 83rd minute, but Cologne II held on to their narrow lead until the final whistle.
For Adamyan, who was moved from Cologne’s first team to the reserves this summer, these two goals were an important statement of his form and character. Coaches praised not only his performance but also his leadership qualities.
“Sargis executed both free-kicks brilliantly and showed everything he is capable of,” said Cologne II head coach Evangelos Sbonias after the match. “He is important not only on the pitch but also in the locker room. His voice is heard when the team needs encouragement, and he helps young players stay confident in tough moments.”
Thanks to the win, Cologne II climbed to 6th place with 15 points, just one step behind Borussia Mönchengladbach II.
