Sardarapat and Ararat-Armenia played out a draw

Armenian reigning champions Ararat-Armenia dropped points in the fourth round of the domestic league. Manuel Tulipa’s side drew with Sardarapat 1-1.

Although the result can be seen as Sardarapat taking points away from the champions, it was actually the home side that could have regretted missing out on victory during the match. In the second half, both teams created numerous scoring chances but failed to convert them.

The teams exchanged goals in the first half. Zhirayr Shaghoyan opened the scoring, while Sardarapat quickly restored parity through Levon Petrosyan.

After the break, both sides continued to play attacking football, but despite dangerous moments near each other’s goals, the winning goal never came.

After three matches played, Sardarapat have collected 7 points. Ararat-Armenia have 10 points after four rounds and sit second in the league table behind Noah.

Ararat-Armenia head coach Manuel Tulipa completely changed his starting lineup compared with the first Europa League qualifying match against Romania’s Universitatea Craiova. At the same time, several key players entered the field in the second half.

Ararat-Armenia’s next match will take place on August 27 in Yerevan, where the team will face Universitatea Craiova in the second leg of the Europa League qualification round.
