Sunderland finished the English Premier League season in seventh place and secured a place in the Europa League. In the final round, the Black Cats claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Chelsea and moved ahead of the London club in the race for a European spot.
This result is historic for the club. Not long ago, Sunderland returned to the elite of English football, and now Régis Le Bris’ team has earned the opportunity to compete on the European stage. According to English media, the Black Cats finished seventh and directly secured participation in the 2026/27 Europa League.
For Armenian fans, this success is also interesting because of Finn Geragusian. The 18-year-old Armenia national team forward is part of Sunderland’s system and played for the club’s U21 and U18 teams last season. He had also previously been included in the first-team squad for an FA Cup match.
Sunderland’s participation in the Europa League could increase the young Armenian forward’s chances of being included in the first-team rotation. Additional matches in European competitions, the FA Cup and the League Cup usually give the coaching staff more opportunities to use young players.
Geragusian has already been named Sunderland U21 Player of the Season. In the previous campaign, he scored 13 goals and provided 3 assists in 29 matches across all competitions, confirming his progress in the club’s academy.
If Geragusian remains at Sunderland, the new season could become an important stage for him in the fight for a place in the first team. The club’s qualification for the Europa League opens up additional prospects for the 18-year-old Armenian forward, who continues to be regarded as one of the notable young players in the Black Cats’ system.
