Armenian athlete Razmik Misakyan has won the gold medal at the 2026 European Senior Grappling Championship. The tournament is taking place in Yerevan, and this victory became the main success for the Armenian national team at the home championship.
Misakyan competed in the 58 kg weight category. In the final bout, the Armenian athlete defeated Spain’s Alejandro Reyes 2:0 and became European champion.
Misakyan’s path to gold was very intense. Before reaching the final, he defeated two athletes from Ukraine, as well as representatives of Poland and Italy. In the decisive bout, Razmik managed to secure his advantage and bring Armenia a gold medal at the senior tournament.
It should be noted that Razmik Misakyan previously competed for the Armenian national freestyle wrestling team, and now he has achieved a major success in grappling as well.
At the moment, this is Armenia’s only gold medal at the home European Senior Championship. However, Armenian athletes still have chances to add more medals in the bronze-medal bouts.
The following Armenian athletes will compete in the small finals for medals:
100 kg: Misha Dilanyan — Antonio Caretto
84 kg: Suren Hardayan — Cristian Tugulea
77 kg: Nahapet Ekizyan — Oussam Idrissi
66 kg: Narek Ayvazyan — Mykhailo Kazymarchuk
Thus, the Armenian national team can still finish the senior tournament with several medals, but the main result of the day is already known: Razmik Misakyan has become the 2026 European grappling champion in the 58 kg weight category.
