Ranos gets chance to replace Pléa and shines in friendly match (VIDEO)

21-year-old Armenia national team striker Grant-Leon Ranos played the entire second half of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s friendly against Erzgebirge Aue and was one of the most noticeable players on the pitch.

• In the 84th minute, Ranos had a clear chance to score his first goal for Borussia but failed to convert a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

• The forward was actively involved in attacking play: he twice created great chances for teammates, but they missed the target.

• The match ended in a confident 3–0 win for the “Foals.”

This summer, longtime attacking leader Alassane Pléa left the club, and Ranos played in his position during this game. Last winter, the Armenian forward was loaned to Kaiserslautern but struggled to make an impact and returned to Mönchengladbach.

The coaching staff has not yet decided whether Ranos will stay in the first team or be loaned out again, but Pléa’s departure significantly increases his chances of securing a spot in the squad and gaining regular Bundesliga minutes. The next friendlies will offer more clarity on the young striker’s role this season.

Borussia’s next friendly will take place on July 22 against Ukrainian club Metalist 1925.
