Pyunik ends its European campaign with a defeat in Hungary against Győr

After a 2-1 home win in Yerevan, Pyunik lost 1-3 to Hungary's Győr in the second leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League 2025/26 second qualifying round and was eliminated from the tournament with an aggregate score of 3-4.
The hosts’ Algerian striker Nadir Benbouali opened the scoring in the 16th minute, heading in a cross from the flank. In the second half, in the 69th minute, he doubled his tally, again scoring with a header.
Pyunik was given hope by the team’s newcomer Eric Okansi, who scored in his debut match in the 84th minute and leveled the aggregate score. However, the Hungarian side managed to snatch the victory: in the 90th minute, Dániel Steful scored from a corner kick and sent Győr into the next round.
Yegishe Melikyan’s team fought until the very last minute, but defensive mistakes became the decisive factor in the defeat. Despite an even match, the defensive errors cost Pyunik the continuation of their European journey.
