PSG continue their Champions League title defence. The Paris club have reached the final of Europe’s premier club competition for the second consecutive season after defeating Bayern Munich on aggregate in their semi-final tie.
The second leg in Paris ended 1-1, while the overall score of the tie was 6-5 in favour of the French side. Ousmane Dembele put PSG ahead as early as the 3rd minute, forcing Bayern to chase the game from the opening stages.
The Munich side kept the intrigue alive until the very end and managed to equalise only in stoppage time, with Harry Kane scoring in the 94th minute. However, it was not enough to turn the tie around. PSG held on to the result they needed and booked their place in the decisive match of the tournament.
UEFA also singled out the performance of PSG defender Willian Pacho, who was named Player of the Match. UEFA’s technical group highlighted his reliability in duels, important interceptions and key role in the team’s defensive work.
For Bayern, the defeat marked a painful end to their European campaign. Vincent Kompany’s side had been targeting a place in the final and still had hopes of completing a treble, but they stopped one step short of the decisive match.
The Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal will take place on May 30 in Budapest. The Parisians still have the chance to become only the second team in the Champions League era to successfully defend the title.
