The head coach of Yerevan’s “Noah”, Sandro Perković, shared his expectations at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Conference League first-round clash against Croatian champion “Rijeka”. The match will take place on October 2 at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan.
Sandro Perković:
“Yes, I played against Rijeka when I was in charge of Dinamo Zagreb, and we won, but that means nothing for today’s game. If we want to win, we must be at our very best and stick to our plan from the first second until the last.
Rijeka is the national champion and Croatian Cup winner. They have an excellent squad with quality players. They didn’t start the season too well, but against us they will want to restart it. Still, as much as I respect the opponent and their strength, I equally believe in my team and in our victory. I am confident that tomorrow we will play a great game.
Since I joined the team, we have already played more than 20 matches and held over 80 training sessions, so we have gained more confidence and chemistry. I believe this will help us continue to perform successfully.
The Republican Stadium has a great history, it is an arena for big games and transmits energy. I know the stadium will be full for the match, and the fans will help us.
I feel no pressure regarding results or the team’s European experience from last year. The only pressure I have is to constantly improve our level of play and the quality of the players. The results will follow.
Rijeka is very dangerous during set pieces; they score many goals this way. This is not a team where we can focus on a single player. Only full concentration from our players for the entire 90 minutes can help us. This game is a big challenge for us, but we want to prove that we have the necessary level to compete in the group stage.
It feels very good to play at home. I hope that in difficult moments our fans will support us and give us extra energy.”
