19-year-old Copenhagen winger Roony Bardghji, who is close to joining Barcelona, has turned out to be not only a bright football talent but also of Armenian descent. This was reported by Sportaran.com.
Bardghji was born in Kuwait, and his parents come from the Syrian city of Aleppo. According to TheMatchMinute and AFS_scout, the player has Armenian roots on his father's side.
To clarify, Sportaran.com contacted Albert Tamoyan — a future member of Armenia’s youth national team, who is well-acquainted with the Bardghji family.
“Yes, of course, Ryan (Roony ’s younger brother) and I are close friends. He has Armenian roots on his father’s side — his grandfather is an Armenian from Aleppo,” confirmed Tamoyan.
Roony Bardghji has played 9 matches for Sweden's youth national team. In the 2023/24 season, he scored 7 goals for Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga, but played less frequently in the 2024/25 season due to injury.
His younger brother Ryan, now 15, plays in Copenhagen’s academy and has already been called up to Sweden’s youth national team, where he met Albert Tamoyan.
Tamoyan also expressed readiness to help the Armenian national team:
“If they want to win matches — they need me!” said the young striker, who plays for Sweden’s Helsingborg U17 and has already scored 17 goals this season.
Thus, Roony Bardghji’s potential move to Barcelona becomes not only a transfer sensation but also a source of pride for the Armenian diaspora. And maybe we’ll see one of the Bardghji brothers in Armenia’s national team someday.
Albert Tamoyan: “I was invited to the Swedish national team, but I chose to represent Armenia.”
