16-year-old forward Albert Tamoyan, who plays for Sweden’s “Helsingborg U17,” has scored 6 goals in 12 matches this season, showing impressive progress. Born in Sweden to Yazidi parents from Armenia, Albert has caught the attention of both the Swedish and Armenian football federations.

In an exclusive interview with Sportaran.com, Albert Tamoyan spoke about his decision to represent Armenia, his early football journey, and his idols.

— Albert, tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and where were your parents born?
— My name is Albert Tamoyan, and I play for Helsingborg U17 in Sweden. I was born in Helsingborg, but I live in a small town called Östorp. My parents are Yazidis, originally from Armenia. They grew up there before moving to Sweden.

— Which position do you feel most confident in, and what are your standout qualities on the pitch?
— I usually play as a forward, but sometimes I’m used as an attacking midfielder. I love scoring goals and always look for different ways to do it. I have good technique, ball control, and speed. But my biggest strength is my physicality — I’m strong and good at shielding the ball with my body.

— Do you visit Armenia often? Do you speak Armenian?
— I travel to Armenia about once a year to visit family and friends. I understand Armenian, but I can’t speak it yet.

— When did the Armenian Football Federation first contact you?
— It all started in 2023 when the AFS Scout page noticed me and added me to their platform. Since then, I’ve been on the radar of the Armenian Football Federation. They reached out to me, and I decided to accept the invitation to join the Armenian youth national team. I’m not sure yet when I’ll make my debut — most likely during the U17 EURO qualifiers this fall.

— You were called up by Sweden’s youth team. Why did you decide to play for Armenia?
— Yes, I was called up twice by Sweden’s youth team. But I chose Armenia because it’s my homeland, and I want to be part of it.

— I noticed you follow Edgar Babayan on social media. Do you know him personally?
— There’s nothing special, it’s just that our families are friends.

— How did you start playing football? Who inspired you?
— I started playing football when I was five years old. My dad has always been an important part of my journey — he supported me and helped me improve.

— Do you have a favorite club or player you look up to?
— My favorite club is Barcelona. I’ve always watched their games and admired Lionel Messi the most. He’s my idol and the greatest player in my eyes.

— Who supports you the most in your journey?
— First and foremost, my family. My parents and brothers have always been by my side, encouraging me to grow.

— Do you have any Armenian football idols?
— Yes, I’ve always looked up to Henrikh Mkhitaryan. I’m inspired by how he kept working hard and earned the chance to play for one of Europe’s top clubs.
