On July 2, Istanbul will host the seventh edition of the IBA Pro series — a large-scale boxing show at the luxurious Rixos Tersane complex. The highlight of the evening will be Armenian boxer Hovhannes Bachkov's title bout for the IBA Pro International belt in the super lightweight division.
Bachkov Faces New Opponent in Title Fight
Originally, Bachkov (7-0, 6 KOs) was scheduled to fight Uzbek Shohjahon Ergashev (25-2, 22 KOs), but Ergashev withdrew due to injury. In his place steps experienced South African Xolisani Ndongeni (33-6, 19 KOs), a former world title contender. The 10-round bout will be one of the central events of the evening.
For Olympic bronze medalist and Armenian fan favorite Bachkov, this fight is a crucial step toward even greater heights in professional boxing. A win could open the door to a full world title shot.
Main Event of the Evening
The main event features a WBA Interim and IBA Pro World title defense in the super featherweight division. Undefeated champion Albert Batyrgaziev (12-0, 6 KOs) takes on experienced Brit James Dickens (35-5, 0 KOs), who recently scored a stunning upset over Zelfa Barrett.
