On the second day of the IBA 2025 World Boxing Championships in Dubai, the Armenian national team added two confident wins to its record. Hovhannes Bachkov and Artush Hovhannisyan stepped into the ring and successfully began their journey in the tournament.
Two-time European champion, Olympic bronze medalist, and four-time World Championship bronze medalist Hovhannes Bachkov demonstrated excellent form. In the 67 kg category, he defeated Kenya’s Waisman Mwathe by technical knockout in the second round, securing a spot in the Round of 16. The 33-year-old Armenian boxer looked significantly stronger than his opponent and fully controlled the fight.
Artush Hovhannisyan had a more intense and competitive bout. In the 80 kg category, he faced Cameroon’s Brandon Ngon and won by a split decision — 4:1 — advancing to the next round of the World Championships.
It is worth noting that earlier in the tournament, Ararat Harutyunyan (71 kg) also claimed victory, while Artem Mashkaryan (67 kg), Vakhtang Harutyunyan (75 kg), and Narek Manasyan (92 kg) advanced automatically due to their opponents not appearing.
The Armenian national team continues to perform confidently at the World Championships in Dubai, strengthening its position in the battle for medals.
