In the 3rd round of the Argentine Clausura, Gimnasia y Esgrima claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Independiente. One of the heroes of the match was Armenia national team forward Norberto Briasco-Balekian, who started for the second match in a row – a rare occurrence for him in recent times.
Briasco spent 67 minutes on the pitch and showed great activity. His stats included a shot that hit the post, two key passes, two created goal-scoring chances, five duels won, four fouls drawn, and one successful tackle. According to Argentine journalists, this was Briasco’s best performance in a Gimnasia shirt.
“They found the right role for him. It was an impressive performance – speed, desire, aggression. Beto can become a significant asset for the team,” said journalist Lautaro Perez.
“This was his best game at the ‘Lobo’ stadium. He was heavily involved in attacking actions and had real chances to score,” added journalist Agustin Zabaleta.
Despite a series of injuries in recent years, Briasco remains a player with high potential. A full season at a high level could help the forward regain the form he once showed when he was considered one of the most promising figures in Argentine football, admired by Diego Armando Maradona, with Boca Juniors paying €4.2 million for him and signing a long-term contract valid until the summer of 2026. It should be noted that Balekian is currently on loan and is due to return to Boca in December.
Briasco has 18 caps for the Armenian national team.
