Yerevan’s Noah secured a historic 1–0 victory over Dutch side AZ in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League Round of 32.
The decisive moment came in the 52nd minute when Hovhannes Hambardzumyan found the net. The 34-year-old Armenian defender finished brilliantly after a pass from Hélder Ferreira, giving his team a narrow advantage ahead of the second leg. For Hambardzumyan, this was his 45th appearance in European competitions.
The return match will take place on February 26 in Alkmaar, where the participant of the Round of 16 will be determined.
AZ will face a squad setback: central defender Wouter Goes received a yellow card and will miss the return leg.
Noah also has concerns ahead of the trip to the Netherlands. Gustavo Sangaré, Hélder Ferreira, and Nathaniel Saintini were forced off in the second half due to injuries. The extent of their injuries will be known soon.
This match marked the first-ever European playoff appearance in the history of the Armenian club — and it immediately resulted in their first victory at such an advanced stage.
