A serious incident occurred during the Armenian Premier League Round 14 match between Shirak and Gandzasar. In the 66th minute, Gyumri team's forward Donald Kodia suffered a severe injury after a harsh collision with the visiting goalkeeper Grigori Matevosyan.

Kodia launched a counterattack and reached the ball first, but Matevosyan, rushing out of the goal at full speed, struck the Ivorian forward with his knee. The impact knocked Kodia to the ground instantly, and he remained down for a long time.

The medical staff provided urgent assistance, after which Kodia was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The footballer’s condition is being clarified.

For dangerous play, Grigori Matevosyan received a straight red card and was sent off.

Considering the force of the impact, doctors do not rule out serious consequences for the injured player's health. Fans and the club hope that Donald Kodia’s life is not in danger and that he will be able to recover soon.

The match was halted for 10 minutes, and after the restart Shirak midfielder Rafik Misakyan opened the scoring from the free-kick awarded for the foul on Kodia.
