On October 30, in the Albanian city of Durrës, the third competition day of the 2025 European Junior Weightlifting Championships (U20 & U23) took place. Three medal sets were contested — two in the U23 category and one in the U20 category.
Team Armenia won one “big” gold, one “big” silver, and one “big” bronze medal on the third day. An all-Armenian duel unfolded in the men’s 71 kg category (U20), where 20-year-old Tigran Karapetyan and 18-year-old Narek Grigoryan competed for the championship title. Both set new European youth records, but Karapetyan emerged victorious, now holding all three records — in snatch, clean & jerk, and total.
In the same weight class but among U23 athletes, another Armenian representative, Gor Sahakyan, won the bronze medal. The champion was Yusuf Genç from Turkey, while Ukraine claimed another gold medal that day.
After three days of competition, Turkey leads with four “big” gold medals. Armenia follows with three, Italy with two, and Romania, Ukraine, and Spain each have one.
