EURO 2026 Futsal opener ends in a draw between Croatia and France

On January 21, the UEFA Futsal European Championship — EURO 2026 — kicked off in Riga. In the opening match of Group A, the national teams of Croatia and France played to a 2–2 draw.

The match was intense and highly competitive. Croatia looked more active and dangerous, producing almost twice as many shots on target and constantly applying pressure inside the French penalty area. However, France started the game stronger and managed to score twice in the first half, capitalizing on defensive mistakes by the Croatians.
After the break, the initiative shifted to Croatia. The team significantly increased its intensity, successfully disrupted most of France’s attacks and eventually equalized the score. Duje Kucura scored a brace to secure an important point for his side.
Croatia captain Franco Jelovčić was named Man of the Match. According to UEFA’s technical observers, he was the key figure of the game, demonstrating high football intelligence, excellent passing quality, composure on the ball, great vision, and solid defensive performance.
After the final whistle, both teams confirmed their status as potential dark horses of the tournament. France confidently controlled possession, while Croatia achieved its result through commitment, organized defending, and quick counterattacks.
Later today in Group A, Latvia will face Georgia. Armenia will play its match against Ukraine on January 22.
