Morocco Started AFCON 2025 with a Home Victory

On December 21, the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations took place in Rabat. The tournament hosts, the Morocco national team, made a confident start to the continental championship by defeating the Comoros national team 2–0.
The opening goal was scored in the 55th minute when midfielder Brahim Díaz found the net after a precise assist from Noussair Mazraoui. The final score was sealed in the 74th minute, as fans witnessed one of the most spectacular goals of the tournament. Olympiacos forward Ayoub El Kaabi struck the ball with an overhead kick, showcasing excellent technique and coordination.

Morocco dominated the match from start to finish, consistently creating dangerous chances near the opponents’ goal and could have won by a larger margin.
Comoros included Yerevan Ararat goalkeeper Adel Anzimati-Aboudou in their squad, but he remained on the bench.
After the first round, the hosts topped Group A, which also features the national teams of Zambia and Mali.
On December 22, the Group A match Mali vs Zambia will take place, along with Group B fixtures: South Africa vs Angola and Egypt vs Zimbabwe.
