Malkhas Amoyan reaches the semi-finals of the World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship

The World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship started today, on September 18. Wrestlers in the weight categories up to 55, 77, 82 and 130kg took to the mat today.

Malkhas Amoyan, the representative of Armenia in the 77 kg weight category, reached the semifinals of the World Championship. In the 1/4 finals, the four-time European champion defeated the winner of the European and World Championships, the representative of Turkey, Ahmed Yilmaz. Before the fight with the Turk, Malkhas managed to defeat American athlete Kamal Bey and Polish representative Mateusz Bernatek.

In the semifinals, his opponent will be Asian silver medalist and U20 world champion, representative of Iran Alireza Abdevali.

Unfortunately, the rest of the participants from the Armenian national team did not reach the 1/2 finals stage. Razmik Kurdyan (130 kg) lost in the 1/8 finals to the representative of Belarus, Samvel Grigoryan (82 kg) lost to the representative of Russia in the 1/16 finals, and Manvel Khachatryan lost to the Turk in the 1/8 finals. Razmik and Manvel still have a chance to get into the consolation block. Their opponents advanced to the semifinals.
