Russian skier and ski mountaineer Varvara Prokhorova may change her citizenship and begin competing under the Armenian flag, Metaratings.ru reports.
According to the publication, the process of changing the athlete's citizenship is at an advanced stage.
Prokhorova has repeatedly participated in World Championships and World Cups in roller skiing, as well as in international FIS competitions. Since 2015, she has been part of the CSKA sports society in ski mountaineering and holds the rank of Warrant Officer in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Ski mountaineering will make its debut at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Russian athletes in this sport have been granted the right to participate in the qualification process under a neutral status. However, at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Russian representatives from law enforcement agencies, including members of the CSKA and Dynamo sports societies, were not allowed to compete.
