21-year-old Armenian wrestler Levik Mikayelyan (61 kg) has become the European U23 champion in freestyle wrestling. In the final of the tournament held in Tirana, Mikayelyan defeated Azerbaijani wrestler Jeyhun Allahverdiyev with a score of 2:1.
This is Mikayelyan's first gold medal at European championships. At the tournament in Albania, he secured three confident victories, advancing to the final, where he defeated the European U20 champion, Azerbaijani Jeyhun Allahverdiyev. This was a revenge for the 2023 European U20 Championship final, where Allahverdiyev won 2:0, but today Mikayelyan was stronger.
LEVIK MIKAYELYAN'S PATH TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Levik Mikayelyan (61 kg) defeated German Dario Dietrich 10:0 in the 1/8 final, and in the quarterfinals, he also defeated Italian Simone Piroddu 12:1. In the semifinal, he beat Ukrainian Nikita Abramov 11:1, and in the final, he overcame Azerbaijani Jeyhun Allahverdiyev 2:1.
This is the first medal for the Armenian team at the European U23 Freestyle Wrestling Championship. Today, Knyaz Iboyan (92 kg) will also compete in the final.
