Karlen Hovhannisyan joins Akron from Pyunik

Tolyatti-based Akron have officially announced the signing of 21-year-old Armenia international midfielder Karlen Hovhannisyan from Yerevan’s Pyunik.

The player has signed a five-year contract with the Russian club. It was previously reported that the transfer fee would be around €700,000.

Hovhannisyan is a product of Pyunik’s academy. The midfielder made 38 appearances for the Yerevan club’s senior team, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He also has five UEFA Conference League appearances to his name.

Hovhannisyan also spent time on loan at BKMA, where he made 53 appearances, scoring four goals and registering one assist.

At international level, the midfielder represents Armenia. He has made three appearances for the senior national team.

Akron sporting director Alexey Burtovoy said the club considers Hovhannisyan one of Armenia’s most talented young players.

— Karlen is a quick and technically gifted midfielder who is capable of controlling the game in the middle of the pitch. The new signing fits well with Akron’s strategy, which focuses on young talent,— Burtovoy said.

Akron CEO Konstantin Klyushev added that Hovhannisyan’s transfer was the result of the club’s long-term work in the transfer market. According to him, the club’s transfer campaign is not over yet.

Hovhannisyan has already joined Akron and has been included in the squad for the Russian Cup match against Moscow’s Lokomotiv.
