Late in the evening of September 4, a charter flight carrying the Portugal national team landed at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan. The team arrived for the opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Armenia.

All eyes, of course, were on the team’s captain — Cristiano Ronaldo. For the 40-year-old Al Nassr striker, this was already his fourth visit to the Armenian capital. He last played in Yerevan ten years ago, in June 2015, when he scored a hat-trick to secure a 3:2 victory for his team.

This time, Ronaldo arrived as a true legend of world football, and hundreds of fans gathered at the airport to greet their idol. The reception was accompanied by heightened security measures — Armenian police set up a tight cordon around the terminal to maintain order.
