Armenian Shooters Win Six Medals on Opening Day of World Championships in Tallinn

The competitive programme of the 2026 ISSF World Championship Moving Target began in Tallinn on July 21. On the opening day alone, Armenian athletes won six medals: two gold, two silver and two bronze.

Hayk Minasyan achieved Armenia’s biggest success in the men’s competition. He scored 384 points in the individual moving target mixed runs event and was crowned world champion.

His victory was historic for Armenian sport. Hayk Minasyan won Armenia’s first-ever gold medal at a senior world championship in the history of Armenian shooting.

Armenia’s second gold medal was won by Aida Azatyan. Competing in the same event in the junior women’s category, she scored 379 points and finished in first place.

Armenian athletes also performed successfully in the team competitions. Hayk Minasyan, Hovhannes Margaryan and Gor Khachatryan claimed the silver medal in the men’s team event.

In the junior women’s team competition, Aida Azatyan, Anahit Sargsyan and Lilit Mkrtchyan scored a combined 1,095 points and also won silver medals.

Two Armenian teams received bronze medals. In the women’s team competition, Lilit Mkrtchyan, Arusyak Grigoryan and Mari Ghazaryan scored 1,056 points to finish third.

In the junior men’s competition, Hamlet Karenyan, Manvel Mirzoyan and Gor Martirosyan also secured bronze medals with a combined score of 995 points.

After the first day of competition, Armenia’s medal tally stands at six:

• two gold medals;
• two silver medals;
• two bronze medals.

The ISSF World Championship Moving Target is being held in the Estonian capital from July 20 to 26, 2026.
