Inter Milan secured a confident away victory over Borussia Dortmund in Matchday 8 of the Champions League league phase — 2:0. The game took place at Signal Iduna Park and remained tense almost until the very end.
For a long time, neither side could break the deadlock, but the breakthrough came in the final ten minutes. In the 81st minute, Federico Dimarco opened the scoring with a direct free kick — the set piece had been won by Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Deep into stoppage time, in the 90+3rd minute, substitute Andy Diouf sealed the win for the Nerazzurri. Davide Frattesi provided the assist.
Despite the victory, Inter failed to break into the overall top 8 of the league stage. The Milan side finished 10th and will now play in the Round of 32 (playoff round) as a seeded team.
Directly through to the Round of 16:
Arsenal, Bayern, Liverpool, Tottenham, Barcelona, Chelsea, Sporting and Manchester City.
Special mention goes to Henrikh Mkhitaryan against his former club. The 37-year-old Armenian midfielder played 88 minutes, received a 7.5 rating from SofaScore, and won 7 of his 9 duels, being one of the key figures in midfield.
Borussia Dortmund — Inter — 0:2 (0:0)
Goals: Dimarco 81 (0:1); Diouf 90+3 (0:2).
