Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira will fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title.

A major UFC lightweight title fight has been officially announced: on June 28 at UFC 317 in Las Vegas, Ilia Topuria (16–0) will face Charles Oliveira (35–10). The news was confirmed live by UFC President Dana White.
The title became vacant after reigning champion Islam Makhachev decided to move up to welterweight. The reason was the failure of his close friend and teammate Belal Muhammad, who lost his title fight to Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena. Now, Makhachev will challenge the new welterweight champion.
In the lightweight division, the title will be contested by Ilia Topuria — the undefeated former featherweight champion who voluntarily vacated his belt to move up in weight — and former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, who is eager to reclaim his lost crown.
The number one ranked lightweight Arman Tsarukyan will await the outcome of this bout. In his last fight, the Armenian fighter secured a dominant victory over Oliveira, which earned him the top spot in the rankings. Most likely, Tsarukyan will be the next title contender and will face the winner of the Topuria vs. Oliveira bout.
