Real Madrid are close to making a major defensive signing. According to well-known insider Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish club have reached an agreement with French defender Ibrahima Konaté, who is expected to join the team as a free agent.
According to the source, the parties have agreed on a four-year contract. The official announcement is expected after Real Madrid’s presidential elections, where Florentino Pérez is widely expected to remain in his position and continue building the squad for the new season.
Konaté previously played for Liverpool, where he arrived from RB Leipzig and became one of the notable central defenders in the English Premier League over several seasons. According to media reports, the French footballer put offers from Saudi Arabia on hold, as a move to the Madrid club became his priority option.
In addition, it is reported that Real Madrid have also completed the deal for Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch defender from Inter is expected to strengthen the right side of Madrid’s defence. Thus, the club is placing serious emphasis on rebuilding its defensive line.
Spanish and European media are also linking Real Madrid with several other star players. Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Nuno Mendes, Michael Olise and Victor Osimhen are mentioned among possible targets. However, at this stage these options remain at the level of rumours, while the moves for Konaté and Dumfries appear to be the most advanced.
The summer transfer window could become one of the most active for Real Madrid in recent years. After the possible official re-election of Florentino Pérez, the Madrid club is likely to begin announcing its first signings and presenting the team’s new project.
