The 2025 European U17 Weightlifting Championships are taking place in Madrid, where Armenia’s representative Grigor Ghazaryan won the gold medal in the 94 kg weight category. The young Armenian weightlifter delivered an outstanding result, lifting a total of 338 kg (148+190) in the combined event, improving his personal best by 8 kg.

Ghazaryan confidently triumphed in both lifts and claimed two small gold medals. In the snatch, he successfully lifted 140, 145, and 148 kg, with his final attempt setting a new European youth record. In the clean and jerk, the Armenian lifted 180 kg on his first attempt, setting new European records in both this lift and the total. He then improved his own marks by lifting 185 and 190 kg.

This is already Ghazaryan’s second major title in 2025. In May, he became the world champion in the 96 kg weight category at the championship in Lima, Peru, where he posted a total of 330 kg (145+185).

Results in 94 kg (U17):

  • Grigor Ghazaryan (Armenia) – 338 kg (148+190)

  • Aleksandr Bagaev (Russia) – 330 kg (146+184)

  • Jumber Bekoshvili (Georgia) – 308 kg (139+169)
